Perfect Baked Potatoes

I don’t eat baked potatoes very much mainly because I always seem to cook them just a little too much or just not enough.  I know they are easy but why o why can’t I make them perfectly.  tonight we are cooking baked potatoes and here is how we are doing it:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees2. Wash the potatoes and dry them
3. Pierce them with a fork about 4 times
4. Put them on the top rack and cook for at least 60 minutes

 Here are some other times:

45 minutes at 400 degrees F.
60 minutes at 350 degrees F.
90 minutes at 325 degrees F.

Test for doneness by squeezing the middle a bit.  If it gives easily it should be done.


So it didn’t go quite as planned so I’m not sure what to tell you.  We cooked them for 60 min. and honestly, they could have cooked another 10 min.

I have actually made baked potatoes correctly but it seems to be a matter of luck more than skill.  I’m going to try it again soon and see what I need to do.

I guess sometimes you just have to accept that the simplest things can be the hardest to attain.  Probably I’m just not focusing on it when I do it.
